Municipalities Receive Better Roads Grants

The Vermont Agency of Transportation recently announced Better Roads Program grant awards for 2017. Municipalities in Bennington County will receive $134,264 for a variety of projects to be completed by December 31, 2017. The BCRC will create updated culvert and road inventories in Manchester, North Bennington, Pownal, Sunderland, and Rupert. This work will help position these communities to be in compliance with the 2018 Municipal Road General Permits as required by the Vermont Clean Water Act. Road crews in Arlington, Rupert, and Sandgate will be busy completing erosion control projects with funding provided for installation of upgraded culverts and stone lined ditches. Grants also were awarded for replacement of larger culverts on perennial streams in Manchester, Rupert and Sandgate. The Better Road Grant Program receives grant applications each spring and BCRC provides assistance to municipalities with the application and implementation projects.
