Farm to School and Food Systems Education Initiatives at Northshire Grows and Hildene

Northshire Grows plans to offer a VT-FEED 101 training in the Southshire next fall. These courses for teachers, administrators, nutrition directors and wellness managers provide an overview of the many aspects of Farm to School programming and its connections to curriculum, cafeteria, and community. Northshire Grows also has started working with VT-FEED's Abbie Nelson and food service directors at Southwestern Vermont Supervisory Union and at Bennington College. Nearly 4,000 students eat on these campuses daily. NG looks forward to helping these programs source as much local food as possible, promoting the value of buying and eating local! Contact Liz Ruffa for more information.

After many years of research and planning, Hildene and Burr and Burton Academy have entered into a deep-seated collaboration providing experiential learning opportunities focused on food systems from the farm to the table. The chance for Hildene members and guests to interact with high school students at its new teaching greenhouse and at Dene Farm adds vibrancy and connects Hildene to their friends, neighbors and the world at yet one more level.
